Rainbow Six Siege Operation System Override is well underway. As the season brought several updates to gameplay, including Ranked 3.0, a Dokkaebi rework, the new Calypso Casino map, and more, the Siege team hosted a Community Checkpoint livestream on the official Rainbow 6 Twitch channel to address some of those changes, discuss the intention behind them, and outline how further adjustments are being made based on player feedback.
Operation System Override brought a major overhaul to the competitive heart of Siege with Ranked 3.0, which was designed with community feedback in mind. It brought more transparency to rankings with no hidden MMR, and a refined matchmaking system to determine your rank and ensure matches were composed of squads of similar ranks. Additionally, players now play five placement matches to earn their starting rank.
During the Community Checkpoint livestream, the developers clarified some of the rationale behind some of the Ranked 3.0 elements, namely:
Placements: designed to reveal the skill level players already had under the previous Ranked system, complete with visible MMR. Based on player feedback, placements will be adjusted further to make them feel more meaningful and better aligned with player expectations. This means placement matches will carry more weight in determining rank in future seasons.
Champion Rank: designed to be the highest achievement in Siege that reflects sustained high-level performance, and cannot be attained simply through placements. Placements are a starting point based on a relatively small snapshot of gameplay, and reaching Champion reflects a player’s ability to adapt and perform consistently over time.
